Trade in the Olonets province in the second half of the 19th century based on the materials of the Olonets provincial gazette

Abstract

The article is devoted to the development of trade in the territory of the Olonets
province during the second half of the 19th century based on the materials of the Olonets Provincial
Gazette. Special attention is paid to the main areas of activity of the Olonets merchants, their relations
with the leading sectors of the region’s economy — fi shing, hunting, and the forestry industry. The paper
provides statistical information characterizing the development of domestic trade in the province, as well
as crafts directly related to commercial activities.
