The purpose of the research is to identify the location of sectors of the historical route of the early 18th century. During field historical-landscape works using the method of landscape indication, as well as the method of interrogation (interviewing) and toponymic analysis of objects, the itinerary of the entire route was clarifi ed. “Osudareva doroga” passes through five types of landscapes of the northern and middle subzones of the European taiga. The features of each of the five landscapes are characterized, including geological and geomorphological structure, soil and forest structure, and marshiness of the territory. The characteristics of the components of natural complexes influenced the choice of road construction methods, directions and various methods of movement of the Russian army and the movement of naval ships. Certain physiognomic features characteristic of all discovered fragments of the “Osudareva doroga” have been identifi ed, and the direction of the entire route has been determined.
